What is meditation?
We are each born with unlimited potential and a deep inner knowledge of truth, but life would be without meaning if we did not have to work towards self-discovery.
Each of us has our own God-given gifts to accomplish something unique on earth. It is the discovery of our potential, the quest for this wisdom, the search for our true purpose that gives our life a higher meaning.
Meditation is the practice of developing ourselves holistically, of calming the mind and opening the spiritual heart. It is the practice of mindfulness, compassion, grace and love through all actions. We learn what our deeper purpose is and how through life’s many teachings and lessons we can offer these gifts selflessly for the betterment of all creation.
When we meditate what we actually do is enter into the deeper part of our being. Meditation is like going to the bottom of the sea, where everything is calm and tranquil. On the surface, there may be a multitude of waves, but the sea is not affected below. In its deepest depths it is all silence. When the waves come from the outside world, we are not affected. Fear, doubt, worry and all the earthly turmoils will just wash away.
Meditation does not mean just sitting quietly for five or ten minutes. It requires conscious effort. The mind has to be made calm and quiet. At the same time, it has to be vigilant so as not to allow any distracting thoughts or desires to enter. When the mind is vacant and tranquil and our whole existence becomes an empty vessel, our inner being can invoke infinite peace, light and bliss to enter into the vessel and fill it. This is meditation. If the mind is constantly roaming, if it is all the time a victim of merciless thoughts, then you will make no progress whatsoever. The mind has to be made calm and quiet so that when the light descends from above, you can be fully conscious of it. In your conscious observation and conscious acceptance of light, you will enter into a profound meditation and see the purification, transformation and illumination of your life.
When we meditate, what we actually do is enter into a vacant, calm, still, silent mind. We go deep within and approach our true existence, which is our soul.
